Ayling Lane runs northwards (as shown in this view) up from Weybourne Road, was undoubtably the most rural road remaining in Aldershot. The road is lined with trees and the original hedges of the lane form the hedges of the front gardens of the houses on either side. The left side of the road at the bottom end was agricultural until 1949 when a threatened development took place. A housing estate was built on the land where for many hundreds of years crops were grown. Near the top of the hill stands Ayling House, one of Aldershot's early farm houses which dates from the 17th Century
