St Michael

The church is built in Gothic style architecture using brick and bargate stone facings. A feature of the church is the Gothic chancel arch. The nave, side aisles and chancel are in Bath stone. The vestry was added in 1890. The church has accomodation for 800 and contains some fine stained-glass windows, the great west window above the altar being a memorial to the fifty three men of the parish who fell during the war of 1914 -1918. On the south wall recorded on a tablet are the names of the fallen men. There are nine stained windows in groups of three on the south wall, each group being a memorial. On the north wall is another stained-glass window, erected by Richard BATEMAN in memory of his wife Sarah Frances, August 1881. Beside the organ (which was rebuilt and renewed in 1925)  is a brass memorial plaque erected .
