ACS Honours Edgar Jerome’s with a Blue Plaque

On Saturday 23 November 2025, members and friends of the Aldershot Civic Society gathered in Union Street for the unveiling of a new blue plaque commemorating over 100 years of continuous trading by Edgar Jerome Ltd, the long-established gentlemen’s outfitters and school uniform specialist. Founded in 1923 by Edgar Jerome, the business has remained in the same family and the same premises ever since, making it one of the town’s most enduring independent retailers.

Society Chairman Justin Coll and the present proprietor, John Jerome – grandson of the founder – jointly unveiled the plaque to warm applause from the assembled crowd, which included the Deputy Mayor and several former employees. Following the short outdoor ceremony, guests were invited inside for refreshments, where they enjoyed the opportunity to view historic photographs and exchange memories of the store that has served generations of local families. The Aldershot Civic Society is delighted to add this latest plaque to its growing collection celebrating the people and businesses that form part of our town’s rich heritage.
